- Adult Gero Certification Now I would like to share my experience in hopes it will help someone. I was very disappointed to say the least. I had studied consistently for about 7 weeks for the ANCC. So ensure you pick the right test according to your strengths. Many questions for the non-clinical gave a scenario and would ask you to decide next step or how would you handle it. Also questions on reliable research studies. The clinical content was straightforward, no tricks with those at all. However, there were photos on dermatology and eye disorders. Most questions were multiple choice; there were a few "all that apply" type questions. For the ANCC please allow time to study the non-clinical as well as the clinical. - On this test there was a great deal of questions on the elderly and frail elderly, knowing the changes in the body system, medications, and difference in some of the presenting symptoms for this population. I seem to like this test better because I am more clinical. TIP: Please allow yourself enough time to study. It is very important to master the materials not memorize. - Try your best to keep your anxiety at a low; I was constantly calming myself down. Do not spend too much time on a question, select your best answer then mark it and come back to it, if possible. Also, this time I took a break, something I did not do the first time, and I honestly felt it made a difference. Study Materials 1st - Maria Leik - Her book was very good, the content and the questions in the back of the book were very similar to the test questions, especially the questions on the AANP. The Barkley test was good as well and I did well on that test. I also purchased the pocket prep FNP exam prep , it was useful, detailed like Fitzgerald book, downloads to your phone, you can answer questions anywhere. - Unfortunately, I received the Preliminary "Not Passed," notification. I Didn't know how to feel. I felt I was ready and was already burnt out from studying, and could not believe all the time committed did not payoff. Even worse, I did NOT feel the exam was that difficult and not 1 questions really stumped me or made me feel like I didn't have at least a general idea Yet, to my surprise, I failed. I was basically in shock and did not know what else to do, as I felt my studying was sufficient and I felt comfortable with the material. - Mine were all online videos that I pretty much pressed play, let it run for the hours, and came back to save my certificate. I completed the ones that provided the most CEU's in 1 online video and I will post them below. Concurrently, I entered in the CEU hours on the aanpcert. - So I needed to keep that mindset of confidence. My goal was to read the question at a pace not too fast to misread, but not too slow, and keep it at a pace I have practiced up til now. My leftover answer was B. I ended up marking 30 by the time I was done with all questions still overmarked but better this time. But in reality, it was probably only 10ish I truly needed to review while the other 20, I looked back and said yes I took a quick 5 min break, then came back to review the marked questions. - For these type of questions, its best to look at answer choices first because they will give you random non-related information like Hep A stuff, Hep C stuff, that isn't even in the answer choice, so don't spend your time trying to interpret those that when you finally do You can look at reviews, etc. The fast facts are amazing and question dissection.
